Thanksgiving Rehearsal Dinner 2009

The first Thanksgiving after January and I got married, we decided to have a little pre-Thanksgiving party for our friends whose families were all out of town and weren't going to be able to see them over the long holiday weekend. It wasn't a huge deal, and really didn't involve a lot of planning, but it was a lot of fun. So we've continued the tradition in the years since, billing it as a sort of rehearsal dinner for the impending official holiday. Sort of a chance to try out the dishes we were planning to make for Thanksgiving to see how they go over.

Yesterday evening we hosted this year's installment of Fakesgiving and it certainly didn't disappoint.  We must have had more than thirty people in our house, and everyone brought amazing good. Jason and Sherry hooked us up with a giant turkey, and I'm sure I saw at least three different sweet potato dishes, a couple of corn bread casseroles, a giant pan of stuffing, and three pumpkin pies. And of course, the Jake Gilmore special: Green bean casserole complete with shitake mushrooms.

I personally put down three plates of food, although I couldn't overtake Jake and his four-plate record. As if that weren't impressive enough, shortly after finishing his fourth plate of food he challenged Rachel to a foot race. Just to prove he could do it. I got some really poor quality footage of the race, where you can really only see dark shadows running down the street, but Jake completely smoked Rachel in the approximately 200 meter race. He did Thanksgiving proud, that's for sure.

It was a fun evening, and at the end of the night we had a refrigerator full of leftovers, including an entire sweet potato pie, several half empy bottles of wine, and complete confidence that our rehearsal has properly prepared us for the main event this coming Thursday. Bring on the turkey!
