It's been a pretty crazy September. First was the big trip out east, and then this past weekend doubled the craziness with our tenth annual Oktoberfest celebration.
Every year since I graduated, a group of college friends and I have gotten together in the Fall to hang out, catch up, and just have fun for a weekend. Â The first year, it was just 3-4 of us, and we met up here in Columbus mainly to check out that year's Oktoberfest festival in German Village. The next year was a similar sized group, but starting with Oktoberfest 3 the attendance has boomed into the 12-15 person range.
This was all well and good until Oktoberfest 8 when I was first married and hosting Oktoberfest meant kicking January out of the house -- out of her house -- for a long weekend. Â Being the unreasonably tolerant woman that she is, she was totally cool with that arrangement, but it was still just that more more stressful to have a dozen friends rattling around a house that own.
As a result, last year's Oktoberfest weekend was moved off-site to Indian Lake and was a wild success, so we decided to do something similar this year. Â B-House was able to find a cottage out in the middle-of-nowhere Indiana -- fairly central for everyone -- and this past weekend we met up for the tenth time to goof off, play Rock Band, and act like fools.

Seriously, this place was rural. Surrounding the property was a huge field filled with cows, and not a lot else. On the property was a fairly large lake -- about 3/4 of a mile around -- complete with dock, canoe, and floating platform. Â The house had some adequate fishing equipment, so Gavette and B-House spent some time out on the canoe and dock seeing what they could catch.

Gavette landed this sucker on the first morning.

The watersports weren't entirely successful at first, though. First attempts at launching the canoe with four passengers were met with failure.
Between the canoeing, fishing, Rock Band, grilling, and apple peltings, Oktoberfest X was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who made it out this year -- I'm already looking forward to Oktoberfest 11.
